Visit counting stays on public pages
Front Door now runs its own checked copy of the visit counter, keeps it off every private page, and turns it off once you ask a question on a page.
We count visits to public pages with Open Analytics. We tightened how it works before the announcement.
- We run our own copy of its code, so its code cannot change without us. We also check its settings so it does not record what you click on.
- It counts only pages on a public list. Your own pages, your vault, your inbox, a conversation, a search, sign-in, links that carry a code, and our staff pages are never counted. That now includes links like
/seattle/meand/seattle/search. - It does not load on those pages. When you go to one from a public page, we turn it off before the page changes. If you open a public page from one of them, it is never told which page you came from.
- Once you ask a question in Ask about this, it turns off until you leave that page.
- We never change your Do Not Track, Global Privacy Control or tracking choice for you.
- The site now tells browsers to run scripts only from Front Door itself.
- The Privacy page says all of this.
